On August 28th, the online alopecia community Alophoenix, held a fundraising event in Oshawa, ON to raise awareness of Alopecia Areata and inspire donations in support of CANAAF. Emily Easa, the group’s creator, offered spectacular food from her family-owned food truck Batoota’s, a raffle, live music, and face painting. She was joined by Pretty Wigs to You hair boutique who offered guests alopecia-friendly gift bags.
Alophoenix is a proud community that encourages acceptance and supports one other in shared understanding of Alopecia Areata. “Unfortunately, when it comes to alopecia, the initial response is to hide and to cover it up. And so my goal is to hopefully get those people out of hiding, get them to come out and have a little bit of fun and show them that we can actually have a really great community.”

Emily has shown that there are fun and exciting ways to raise money and bring the Alopecia Areata community together. From local events to hair donations, golf tournaments, and online fundraisers, there is an option for everyone to get involved. Every dollar raised directly supports CANAAF’s mission to provide necessary resources for Canadians with alopecia and fund current research.
