Saturday April 27th’s CANAAF Success Session was another positive morning!  We started off with thirty minutes of motivational and inspirational speeches.  Ashlyn and Cheyenne, both junior students from the Durham District School Board, brought their strength, knowledge and insights speaking about alopecia from their childhood perspectives.  Ashlyn shared the good and the bad about living with alopecia universalis and Cheyenne spoke about her understanding of alopecia from a sibling perspective.  Both girls did a fabulous job and “stole the hearts” of our viewers.

Krystyna, our jet setter teen who could not be with us due to a school trip to New York City, videotaped her speech for all to hear.  “Predictable for an Unpredictable disease” is how she defined her experience with the Canadian Alopecia Areata Foundation.  Amanda shared how CANAAF has given her strength to deal with her hair loss.  While Amanda’s hair has spontaneously regrown, she continues to give her time to the foundation to help others who are struggling with this life altering disease.  Tara, one of our board of directors and mother of a 10 year old, touched us as she mentioned how CANAAF provided her family with the emotional support and strength they needed to cope.  To end, Debbie, our CANAAF Treasurer, informed our participants about the Heads Up Fund whereby CANAAF will provide up to $500 of financial assistance to those in need of a hair prosthesis.  For more information please email info@canaaf.org

“Being bald is in”.  That’s what Ashton told the kids at the Kids Club.  Ashton spoke of his life and growing up with this rare condition.  He inspired the kids and teens and encouraged them to believe in themselves and to choose friends who will encourage and motivate them to be all they can be!  Following Ashton’s motivational speech to our Kids Club, Ashton and his Red Dawn martial arts demo team put on an incredible show that awed us all!  They were followed by X Limit Entertainment Inc and Justin, one of our CANAAF/X Limit teens, continued to inspire us!  Our Kids Club ended their session with their own private martial arts lesson!

CANAAF continues to expand and grow.  We welcomed 5 new families as well as two families who flew to Toronto just to be with us.

On behalf of the CANAAF board of directors and our CANAAF participants we would like to give an appreciative thanks to all who made our day a great success!
