Atopic Dermatitis (AD), a type of eczema, is an inflammatory skin disorder that causes redness, itching and dryness. It has been associated with autoimmune diseases like Alopecia Areata (AA) – meaning that those with Atopic Dermatitis have a higher risk of developing AA and vice versa.

In this article, it was reported that a patient with long-standing Atopic Dermatitis and Alopecia Universalis had full regrowth of their hair, and significant improvement in their AD after bi-weekly subcutaneous injections of 300 mg of Dupilumab for 6 months.

These results demonstrate that the underlying immunological pathways may be similar in AD and AA, and could help researchers in developing a more sustainable treatment, or even a cure for Alopecia Areata.
