Sherry P has alopecia universalis. She is a competitive swimmer, having started it rather late, and only when alopecia returned in her teen years. She has been training with the competitive swim club now for three years. She has done very well and recently won silver in the 2011 Canadian Age Group Nationals for her 50 mt butterfly. She is ranked number 2 in Canada for this event in her age group. Below is the link from the Swim Canada website, for the winners of 50 fly. She is (of course) the swimmer with the bandana on.
Sherry and her family believe it is important for young girls to know that alopecia does not define them and they can lead fulfilling lives. She has qualified to swim at the Olympic trials in March of 2012!
Go Sherry, we will all be cheering for you!
